June 10, 2020
May 2020 was filled with FUN! We started to emerge from our time at home and it was so refreshing for the soul! We started going on more walks, spending more time outside and we started to go back to Mass! It felt like a new year!
In early May, we played a lot in our backyard and the kids loved playing in the sandbox! One morning we went to the Panhandle Trail in WV/PA. We went for a nice walk and the kids really enjoyed the freedom of running down the trail (I just needed to keep an eye out for bikers). Matthew build the kids a “mud kitchen” out of our old kitchen countertop and sink. John loves to dig in the dirt to find worms!
Mid May was marked by a visit from my father; the kids were absolutely thrilled that he visited for a few days. John is a BIG FAN of his Papa!! While he was in town, Matthew built some raised garden boxes and I planted a vegetable garden for the first time! I’m so excited to have fresh veggies growing in our backyard! We planted a few varieties of tomatoes, yellow and green zucchini, cucumber, cabbage, and some peppers! I also planted flowers around our yard which look beautiful but I have to be on the lookout to protect them because Grace likes to pop the flower heads off!
On Memorial Day we went to the Pittsburgh Zoo for a driving Zoofari! We drove our car super slowly around the zoo and the kids were on our cloud 9! They could see all the animals from the car and it made for such a special start to the summer. We zoo was a hit and we can’t wait to go back when we can actually walk around! The weather warmed up and we pulled out the pool for the kids. We filled it with soap and John enjoyed covering himself with suds.
The highlight of the month was the huge addition of a swingset to our backyard. We had been on the hunt for a swing set ever since the public parks closed. We finally found the perfect set in Craigslist and we had it installed during nap time. When the kids woke up, surprise! they had a huge swing set to play on! Needless to say, they were thrilled and it has been used every day since! We are planning on putting in tire mulch around the play area to make for a nice soft landing if they fall.
Overall it was a great month and we have so much hope looking forward to the future and the rest of 2020! Summer is finally here and with it comes long sunny days playing in our backyard and bonfires at night! Lots of family time!
