Christ the King Chapel + Steubenville Country Club Wedding | Katie + Leo

This love story was 30 years in the making.  Franciscan University of Steubenville is an incredibly special place and many many marriages come from students meeting and falling in love there.  Two wonderful couples met and were married almost 30 years ago at Christ the King Chapel on campus. Katie’s parents, Chris and Joy Irvin tried to book the chapel for a Saturday wedding in the summer of 1990.  However the date they chose was already booked……by John and Kelly Herrmann, Leo’s parents.  So the Irvin’s got married on Friday and they split the cost of the chapel flowers and shared them with the Herrmann’s who got married one day later.

Fast forward a bit and the families grew up together in Steubenville. So naturally their children met and became friends.  By the age of 14, Katie and Leo were dating and Leo knew that one day, he would ask his high school sweetheart to be his wife.  Katie and Leo had been together for 10 years and now they are husband and wife, married in the same church as their parents.

Their wedding day could be described in one word: classic.  The white tuxedo coat, the timeless ball gown, and the hints of blush in the bouquets brought me back to the 1950’s.  Katie’s whole look reminded me of the iconic Elizabeth Taylor.  Simply elegant and timelessly stunning.  Though their original wedding was planned for Memorial Day weekend, they chose to delay their wedding a few months in order to celebrate with more friends and family.  They both come from very large and loving families so it was incredibly important to them to have as many of them present at their wedding.

Though there were bumps in the road: a global pandemic, a fire at the florist’s home and the party bus breaking down to name a few, their day finally came and it was perfect. There were so many happy tears shed that day and a collective sigh of relief that they were finally married! Their reception at the Steubenville Country Club was a joyous occasion and you could see all of carefully planned details to make their reception stunning.  As the sun set over the golf course, the sound of music and laughter filled the air.  There was a new Mr. and Mrs. Herrmann in town and everyone was excited to celebrate them!

Katie and Leo, we love you both and we are so incredibly elated that you are FINALLY married! Your wedding day is one we will never forget and I hope you are soaking up all of the glory of newly married life.  Enjoy reliving your day through these images!
