St. Paul’s Cathedral + The Pennsylvanian Wedding | Grace + Thomas

“And in January…..we’re gettin’ married.” This song from the Avett Brothers was playing in my mind all day during Grace and Thomas’ wintry January wedding in Pittsburgh.  The day had finally arrived for these two, after months of planning, prayer and preparation.  It seemed fitting for us to be back in Pittsburgh during the winter for their wedding as we had met these two, 364 days prior at Anna and Tony’s wedding.  And now it was their turn to enter into the sacrament of matrimony and begin their lives together as a family.

We began their day at the ever-elegant Omni William Penn Hotel. Each side of the bridal party was getting ready in beautiful suites and you could feel the excitement build as the time inched closer to their first look.  Once Grace and Thomas were dressed and ready to go, we headed down to the mezzanine in the hotel for their private first look.  It was such a tender moment for these two and they soaked it all in, beginning with smiles and tears and ending with prayer.

We headed to the church with the bridal party in a beautiful trolley and braved the frigid temps and stiff wind for portraits.  This bridal party was such troopers.  It was calling for 40mph wind gusts making the temperature outside feel like 15 degrees.  SO COLD!  But they joyfully tackled portrait time and it paid off!  We headed inside to warm up and get ready for the nuptial Mass.

Grace works for the Pittsburgh Oratory and it was such a joy to see all the Oratorians celebrate their wedding Mass. One of my favorite moments was after the vows, Thomas sat down and looked at the ring on his hand, and the two smiled at one another, now husband and wife! It was such a fleeting but precious moment!

After Mass, we headed to The Pennsylvanian, an iconic and classy Pittsburgh wedding venue. Grace’s vision for the wedding came to life, a classic black and gold candle-lit room, dappled with florals and greenery!  It was breathtaking!

Grace and Thomas, we are so incredibly grateful to have gotten to know you over the past year. It was an honor to capture your day! We hope you’re having a blast on your honeymoon, staying cozy and warm, and enjoying the beautiful snow! God bless you both as you begin your life together!

xoxo,

Laura
