Big skies, golden sunsets and an overwhelming sense of joy and thanksgiving….the perfect recipe for a wedding in Dallas, Texas. This was our last wedding of 2020 and what a way to end this year’s wedding season. Veronica and Jon’s day was picture perfect, which, if you know Veronica, isn’t a surprise. The color pallet of deep navy, lush green and pure white complemented the landscape of Texas.
They were married at the beautiful St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in downtown Dallas. The Mass was beautiful and it was clear from talking to this couple that the Nuptial Mass was the most important part of their day. They truly understood that a wedding is a day but a marriage is for a lifetime. Something that really struck me was the priest’s homily. Instead of preaching from the pulpit, he sat down with the couple and talked directly to them. It was a stunning example of the priest’s role as a spiritual father, offering guidance and wisdom to a couple beginning their life together.
After the wedding Mass we headed over to the stunning campus of Southern Methodist University. I could have spent an entire day taking pictures around SMU. The architecture was so lovely and provided such a perfect backdrop for their portraits. I half joking, half serious told Veronica and Jon that we should meet back here in a year’s time for an anniversary session and just use this campus! There are so many amazing spots!
We continued on to their reception venue, Big Sky Event Hall. And what a fitting name for this venue! The sky was filled with puffy clouds that made for a delightful sunset! I was giddy with excitement as we took their husband and wife sunset photos (and guys, the images that Matthew got with the 24mm lens are incredible!!)
Normally in these blog posts I don’t comment on the food….but seriously, the food was incredible and so fun! Whisk served up some increible made to order crepes, both savory for dinner and sweet for dessert. And they also had my all time favorite dessert, cheesecake, for their wedding cake! It was SO enjoyable and definitely a wedding dinner I will never forget!
Veronica and Jon, we love you both. What a gift it was to witness your vows and be there as you begin your life together as a married couple. You are truly made for each other and we can not wait to see what God has instore for your new family. We hope you are having a wonderful mini-moon and we can’t wait to come back to Dallas sometime and visit you! Enjoy reliving your day through some of my favorite images!
xoxo,
Laura
